Stanley Flowstate Spring Review

Overview

Overall, I think Stanley had a lot of good ideas and intentions, but this bottle doesn't quite hit the mark.

The best two things in my opinion compared to other Stanley bottles is that this one makes it easy to clean all surfaces and keeps the drinking surface clean throughout the day.  If those are your two main criteria, this could be a good option.

But there are some significant drawbacks that you should know about before buying.  Most annoyingly, this bottle makes a fairly loud wheezing/whistling noise when you take a sip, but there are a few other drawbacks too.

Why Buy?

• Keeps the Spout Clean: The spring lid keeps the drinking surface clean throughout the day.
• Easy to Deep Clean All Surfaces: The fixed spout is easy to clean because it avoids the issue with traditional flip-up spouts that have a hidden seal at the pivot point.  Also, the spout seal and rim seal are both easy to remove and clean without needing a tool to pick them out.​

Why Avoid?

• Noisy/Whistling: The air vent is small and shaped in a way to creat a fairly loud whistling noise when you sip.
• Difficult and Inconsistent Opening: The stiff button that you have to press at a downward angle, the heavy spring lid, and small spring all combine to make the lid feel more difficult to open and sticky or non-responsive at times.
• Straw Falls Out: I personally did not have this issue happen, but many reviewers said the straw would not stay in place and would fall out often.
• Restriction: The small air vent also makes sipping feel a bit restricted.
• Inverse Taper: Some people may like this as an aesthetic choice, and it does make the bottle less top-heavy.  But the wider bottom makes this bottle less cupholder-friendly than it could be.  This is not the biggest issue with this 20oz size, but if Stanley releases larger sizes in the future with the same shape then it will be.

• Are Stanley Flowstate Springs lead-free? | No, Stanley bottles use a lead-based solder to seal the vacuum.  The solder is located on the bottom of the bottle, and it is only exposed and potentially dangerous if your bottle has extreme damage (and in that case you probably need a new bottle anyways).
