Klean Kanteen TKWide Review

Overview

While not the most popular bottle brand today, Klean Kanteen has its place in water bottle and hydration history by being the first major brand to make stainless steel reusable bottles more mainstream.

Before Klean Kanteen you primarily had stainless steel thermoses for hot drinks like coffee, but not bottles you'd use for everyday hydration or during hikes.

With Nalgene's setbacks due to BPAs, Klean Kanteen was positioned as the BPA-free alternative that was already on the market.  Other brands like Hydro Flask would soon eclipse Klean Kanteen by offering vacuum insulation and more color options, but Klean Kanteen remains a good, classic brand that's always had an emphasis on making the safest bottles possible.

Why Buy?

• Wide Handle: The ridig steel handle is widerthan average, making it easier to grab comfortably.
• Good Company Values: Klean Kanteen seems to go further than most companies when it comes to backing environmental causes.
• Impact Base Cap: This bottle includes what Klean Kanteen calls their impact base cap, which is essentially a stainless steel bumper on the bottom of the lid.  This cap can absorb impacts and dents from drops, helping save your vacuum insulation.

Why Avoid?

• Impace Base Cap: While it's helpful that this feature can save your insulation, it has a few negatives too.  The cap makes the bottle much bulkier.  Also, it doesn't prevent dents, it just reduces the probability that they would affect your insulation.  So you might have good insulation, but you could still very well have a wobbly bottle.
• Limited Options: There are not many color options, and theyr'e spread across a few listings so it's hard to keep track of everything.

• Are Klean Kanteen TKWide bottles safe? | Yes, Klean Kanteen's bottles are made with food-grade stainless steel and plastic.
• Are Klean Kanteen TKWide bottles worth it? | Yes, Klean Kanteen bottles are reliable bottles that will last a long time if you take care of them.
• Are Klean Kanteen TKWide bottles BPA-free? | Yes, all Klean Kanteen products are made with BPA-free materials.
• Do Klean Kanteen TKWide bottles contain lead? | No.  Klean Kanteens are all lead-free.  Instead of using a lead-based solder like you find in many other vacuum insulated bottles, they use a silica-based one.  Realistically, a lead-based solder is not dangerous unless your bottle is extremely damaged, but avoiding lead near your water anyways can still give better peace-of-mind.
