Hydro Flask Trail Series Review

Picture
Overview
Hydro Flask was one of the first stainless steel vacuum insulated bottles to burst into mainstream use.  Using a combination of colorful bottles and influencers, this bottle went viral and became more of an outdoor lifestyle and fashion choice instead of just a bottle.

Hydro Flask's popularity peaked in the summer of 2019, the "summer of VSCO" and "VSCO girls." (VSCO was a photography app, similar to Instagram).

Though their popularity has since been overtaken by other brands like Stanley and Owala, Hydro Flasks are still widely known and very reliable bottles.  Hydro Flask has one of the better-engineered set of lid options, making it a versatile pick (or gift) that is more gender-neutral than some other brands on the market.

Why Buy?
  • Lighter Design: The main selling point for this bottle is the lighter design, which weighs significantly less than most other vacuum insulated stainless steel bottles on the market.
  • Great Insulation: Even though the bottle is lightweight, the insulation holds up surprisingly well and placed better than most similar bottles that we compared from our collection.
  • Comfortable Handle: The handle does not take up much space, is comfy to hold, and is wide enough for 3 fingers.
  • Metallic Look: Most bottles today are powder coated.  While this looks great, it also means most bottles look similar.  Trail Series has a more metallic look that some people may find more appealing.
  • Popular Brand and Gift: While Trail Series isn't their most popular lineup, Hydro Flask is a fairly safe gift option that is more gender-neutral compared to some other brands.
Picture
Why Avoid?
  • Expensive: Hydro Flasks are one of the more expensive brands on the market.
  • Only One True "Trail Series" Lid: The Trail Series lid is higlighted by the perforated handle, which is one way that Hydro Flask lightened the overall bottle.  However, they currently do not offer any lightweight straw, chug, or sip style lids, and the only one is a traditionally standard type of lid that you have to twist all the way off to take a sip.  However, it's worth noting that Hydro Flask's other wide mouth lids do fit on a Trail Seris bottle, so you could mix-and-match.
