Brita Filter Bottle Review
Overview
Brita has long been a trusted brand when it comes to water filtration at home, and more recently they started offering water bottles with built-in straw filters as well.
They have stainless steel and plastic versions, but both use the same straw filter. It's an easy-to-use design, and it's not too restrictive. It's primarily advertised to remove chlorine, odors, and bad tastes. It's worth noting that Brita does not officially mention that this filter removes other common contaminants, such as microplastics or PFAS. The filter may provide some benefit and is likely better than no filter at all, but it should not replace a more extensive filtration system like reverse osmosis. |

Brita Filter Bottle FAQs
- Are Brita bottles dishwasher safe? | No, Brita recommends handwashing their stainless steel straw filter bottles.
- Are Brita bottles worth it? | While it does not provide the most extensive filtration against contaminates like PFAS and microplastics, this is one of the easiest bottles to use for light-duty filtering. If your primary goal is to have water that is free from bad odors, taste, or chlorine, this is a good option to consider.
- Are Brita bottles leak proof? | Yes, Brita's bottles are leak proof as long as the seals are clean and correctly installed. If your Brita is leaking, check the seals and make sure the lid is completely closed.
- Are Brita bottles easy to clean? | Yes and no. The straw and filter are easy to disassemble and reassemble for cleaning, but the narrow mouth design makes it more difficult to clean the bottle itself, particularly since it is not dishwasher safe. We highly recommend getting a bottle brush kit (see below under "Recommended Accessories" for a good one that also includes a straw cleaner).
- Are Brita bottles insulated? | Yes, as long as you get the dual-wall stainless steel version. Brita's plastic bottles are not insulated.
- Are Brita bottles durable? | Yes, to an extent. Stainless steel is strong, but the bottle will dent if you drop it. Also, the flexible lid shouldn't break. However, we have read reviews from several customers who said the open/close mechanism on the spout cap broke over time.
- How long do Brita bottle filters last? | Brita's straw filters are rated to last for 2 months or 40 gallons. If you fill up your 32oz bottle twice per day, then the bottle is filtering 1 gallon every 2 days. That means the 2-month limit is reached before the 40-gallon limit. Based on that usage, each Brita filter should last you 2 months.
- How much do Brita bottles cost per year? | Assuming the 2-month replacement schedule from above, you'll use 6 filters per year. Check the current price of Brita's 6 packs here.
